Type Locality and Naming

Central Sichuan (Ya'an). Reference section is at Guanfangshan, Lushan county, Sichuan. Named by Zhang Honggang et al., 1983. It is the upper formation in the Huangshuihe Gr.

Synonym: (关防山组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Guanfangshan Fm consists of metamorphosed arenaceous and argillaceous rocks intercalated with rare metamorphosed carbonate rock and intermediate-acid volcaniclastic rock. The thickness of this formation varies from 455 to 2612 m.


Lithology Pattern:

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The base is in conformable contact with underlying Huangtongjianzi Fm.

Upper contact

The top is unconformably overlain by the Chengjiang Fm of Sinian System. Regionally, the next younger unit may be the Yanjing Fm (also Mesoproterozoic).

Regional extent

Central Sichuan (Ya'an). It is distributed at Tianzhutang Village, Baoxing County, Guanfangshan, Shitigou, Huangshuihe, Lushan County, Hongyagou, Dayi County, Baishuihe area, Pengxian County.

Fossils

The microplants in carbonate rock are Leiopsophosphaera, Trematosphaeridium, Asperatopsophosphaera etc.
